no more buffet living
all I can eat
has been eating at me
consuming what’s there
because it’s there
not because it’s good
empty calories
painkillers
pulseracers
timefillers
mindspacers
my chains are my freedom
the skeleton key
in plain sight
in reach
in hand
the irony:
this gluttony’s core
is not hunger
but a lack of it
oh, to starve
joyfully
to exercise freedom
and not be trampled
by its false cousins—
fear
insecurity
pride
and senseless urgency
time to begin
the hard work
of hunger
